Case Study: Kimba Sustainable Community

The small regional town of Kimba submitted into multiple categories as a collaborative effort between the District Council of Kimba & ‘Our Town’.

Our Town is a place-based mental health initiative supporting community-determined and preventative responses to mental health challenges. It aims to build capacities of people living in rural and regional South Australia to support each other. It shone through as an impactful initiative and was supported by other initiatives including:

An upgraded free recreation/camping reserve
• A developing business capacity project
• Agricultural sector education which included youth engagement and leadership
• Kimba & Gawler Ranges Historical Museum expansion
• Community collaboration for waste and recycling.

These large-scale and widely beneficial initiatives were acknowledged and awarded as the 2021-22 Sustainable Communities winner. Congratulations to all involved.
